What's growing in the fields?
Crape Myrtle Trees
Sometimes referred to as the Lilacs of the South, Crape Myrtle Trees are hardy, fast-growing shade trees that provide weeks of colorful blooms in shades ranging from white to bright pink. We grow multiple varieties of this Southern favorite in our growing fields here at the Nursery. Visit the Garden Center soon to choose your favorite!
BEE BALM
Attract droves of pollinators with the colorful pink, purple, and red blooms of our newest bee balm varieties. These perennial favorites are growing now and will be available for sale at our Garden Center this Spring.
Sweet grass
Sweet Grass! We have 1 and 3-gallon pots of Sweet Grass (Pink Muhly Grass) available for purchase right now at the Garden Center, but we're also getting a jump on next season by growing Sweet Grass from seed! This hardy, perennial grass remains an attractive shade of green throughout Spring and Summer, then offers showy, cotton-candy-pink plumes in Fall. This Fall display of color catches the eye of Lowcountry natives as well as newcomers to the area, making it one of our most popular plants! Don't miss out on this customer favorite!
SHAMROCK INKBERRY HOLLY
Small in stature, but big in versatility, the Shamrock Inkberry Holly we grow here at the Nursery is suitable for just about any spot in the landscape. This compact native evergreen shrub makes a great replacement for boxwood shrubs here along the coast as it is tolerant of wet feet. It is also disease and pest resistant, tolerant of salt, and deer non-preferred. Matures to 3-4' tall and wide, easily shaped with pruning. Adaptable to sun or shade.
Southern Indica Azaleas
Southern Indica Azaleas are growing and available for sale now at the Nursery! These Spring-blooming beauties have been part of the Brownswood Nursery story for over 40 years as one of our very first offerings, and we are still proudly growing them today! Come visit us for a tour of our growing fields and take home a few of these gorgeous shrubs. Your yard will be bursting at the seams with color come Spring!

Variegated Hydrangea
The variegated hydrangeas we grow here at the Nursery have such striking foliage that it's easy to appreciate them even when they aren't blooming. Dainty lacecap blooms arise in Summer as the perfect complement to this shrub's beautiful leaves!
Elephant Ear Mojito (Colocasia)
Colocasia Mojito is one of the showiest Elephant Ear varieties we grow at the Nursery - each leaf is unique! Mojito performs well in the landscape or in containers and prefers part shade to shade. Plant now to enjoy its colorful patterns year after year!
Dwarf Yaupon Holly
This sturdy evergreen native is a tidy, mounded shrub that can be used as a low maintenance foundation planting, low hedge, or border. Once established, its tolerance of adverse conditions such as drought or occasional flooding proves to be an asset in Lowcountry landscapes. Dwarf Yaupon Holly shrubs can be purchased at our Nursery in shades of solid green or green with burgundy new growth.
Variegated Tractor Seat Plants
Your eyes aren't playing tricks on you! We are currently growing Variegated Tractor Seat Plants (Farfugium)! These cuties prefer part to full shade like their solid green cousins and grow to approximately 20" tall x 20" wide. Stay tuned to our Facebook and Instagram social media accounts for notification of when they're available for sale!
